In 1 Timothy 4:8, Paul tells his protege Timothy, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” I think many of us read that and write off exercise. However, Paul says that exercise has value! Paul tells the Corinthians that our bodies are a temple and that we should honor God with our bodies.
Our bodies are one of the many things we need to steward for God. One of the ways we steward them well is to live healthy lives. Lysa TerKeurst and Rick Warren have small group Bible studies on this topic of caring for our bodies with the end goal of glorifying God in mind.
Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst
When I first heard the idea for Made to Crave, I honestly thought it was bad. But then I read the book and experienced the study and realized that this was not just a way to stop overeating, but a way to put God in the rightful place in people’s lives. Whatever you crave, Made to Crave helps participants reorient that craving to God – He is who we were made to crave, and He is the only thing that will satisfy. Made to Crave Action Plan by Lysa TerKeurst
If Made to Crave is the “want-to”, the Made to Crave Action Plan is the “how-to”. Following the success of Made to Crave, Lysa TerKeurst found time and again she was being asked “how?”. So she put together a webcast with experts and friends that dove into the nuts and bolts of how to eat right and stay healthy. Lysa teaches on passages that help encourage participants, and each session offers practical and helpful advice for those trying to glorify God in their bodies. The better shape you are in, the more energy you will have to serve God. As Paul reminds the Colossians, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). Have you ever participated in a Bible study on your physical bodies or healthy living, or in an exercise group with your church? How do faith and fitness combine in your daily life? We’d love to hear your comments on our blog!
