A Thrill of Hope

A Thrill of Hope

The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master.” — Luke 2:10-11 MSG

The Christmas carol “O Holy Night” originated in France during the mid-1800s, and it’s been beloved for more than a century. While it’s a powerful song as a whole, there are a couple of lines that give a clear picture of just how astonishing and needed Jesus’ birth was. First, the song describes the world’s state, saying,

Long lay the world in sin and error pining

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

Then it gives words to Christ’s impact:

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

How easy it is to forget the hopelessness and weariness the world must have felt before our Savior’s birth. Do you feel a thrill of hope when thinking of all Jesus sacrificed when He came to earth as a baby, or has it become something you take for granted?

With Jesus’ birth came “a new and glorious morn.”

The world changed forever when a tiny Baby let out its first cry.

A Savior was born.
