The Right Way

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. — Psalm 1:6

Sometimes as I think about the accomplishments of others, just for a moment I wonder, What if…? But then, almost immediately, I’m reminded that God has given me my own unique purpose in life.

Psalm 23:3 says, “He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” To find and follow those paths, to work out His purpose for our lives, will require reading and studying God’s Word and praying about how it applies to us. It will involve obedience and service. Not because we have to but because we love Jesus. That’s the path He has laid out before us.

With all your heart just follow Jesus. From personal experience, I can assure you, you’ll be blessed. Satisfied. Fulfilled. He will never mislead you. He will lead you right. Follow Him!

Trust Him

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. — Proverbs 3:5-6

We simply have to trust our heavenly Father to know best. We have to trust God’s silences and wait for God’s answers.

When we pray for the healing of a loved one, and he or she dies . . . when we pray for release from a financial burden, and things just seem to get worse . . . when we pray for reconciliation, and we’re handed divorce papers . . . when we pray for our career, and we get laid off… when we pray for protection, and we’re robbed… trust Him.

Psalm 37:5 says,

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. — NKJV

God answers prayer in His time and in His way — so that our faith rests totally in Him. Then, when the answer comes, we know without a shadow of doubt that it comes from Him alone.

So… commit your way to Him and trust Him.

Consistence in Dependence

Pray continually. — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

In what areas of your life are you acting independently of God? I can usually determine those areas in my life by just checking the things I haven’t prayed about: the people and problems, the relationships, the attitudes, the decisions — anything and everything I haven’t talked to Him about.

If my heart’s cry is to be more fruitful for Him, then one of the goals of my life needs to be that I more consistently depend on Him. Jesus said,

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in Him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. — John 15:5

So examine your prayer life. Make it your goal to be more consistent in depending on Him. Submit every part of your daily activities, your thoughts and will and emotions to Jesus in prayer. Then move forward — on your knees!
