But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. — Galatians 4:4-7
Hey, friends! It’s week four of the Galatians Online Bible Study and we’re heading into some seriously awesome material this week! Are you ready?
Did you know that in biblical times people could disinherit biological children but they could never ever financially cut off their adopted children? If they bore a child, that was one thing, but if they chose a child, that responsibility was unbreakable.
Our adoption in Christ made us exactly the same as God’s people (the Jews who followed the laws). When we asked Jesus to be our Savior, we became His people too, with a guaranteed inheritance… in fact, an inheritance that remains unbreakable.
Even when we’re troublesome, difficult and frustrating, God chooses us to be His people! Isn’t that dumbfounding? He loves us because we’re His kids!
We (believers) are all equal in the grace of God. ~ Jada
Even though we’re still in the here and now… We don’t have to live like we’re not adopted. We don’t have to live like we don’t have this amazing inheritance out ahead of us. We don’t have to feel like orphans and outsiders who don’t have a seat at the table.
You can’t undo it. You will always have a place at His table. ~ Jada
On the flipside, we don’t have to pine for the things of this world as if that’s what matters!
Those things are important, but they are minor things compared to the inheritance that we have in Jesus. ~ Jada
If we don’t know how accepted we are by God, we can go after some kind of worldly acceptance that will never, ever fill the God-hole in our souls that He was meant to fill.
Our lives become radically different when we realize who we are and Whose we are. We’re not slaves, we’re not prisoners, we’re daughters and sons of the King.
We don’t have to tip-toe around. We’re messy and He knows it. We’re His kids!

Prayer for the Week
Abba, we love You! Thank You for knowing who we are, how we are, what we are and adopting us even though we’re messy and difficult. We love that You love us and chose us. We’re so grateful that we’re Your kids and that we have an incredible inheritance now and ahead of us into eternity. Thank You, Father! We love You, Lord! Amen.
