Get Out of Your Head Week 5 — A New Way to Live

We are free. The Bible tells us that there is no condemnation because of the blood of Jesus Christ. ~ Jennie Allen

… forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead… — Philippians 3:13

Forget it!
Leave it.
Drop it.
Walk away.
And breathe deep.

Friends, we must stop living under shame and condemnation.

Have you ever had someone in your life who was constantly letting you know that you weren’t enough, that you’d blown it too badly to be lovable, that you were unwanted, unloved, unforgiven, and unaccepted? Of course you have. Because we all have an enemy who skulks around whispering vile trash in our ears. But it’s all lies. Lies we are vulnerable to get sucked into if we’re not careful what we allow in.

What are you ashamed of? What still follows you around? What are you dragging around with you every day that you no longer need to carry once Jesus is your Savior?

For those who don’t know the Lord, that crippling burden makes sense. It’s still on those who haven’t given themselves to Jesus. But, for us believers, it’s ridiculous! Why carry around a backpack full of burdensome bricks of guilt and humiliation when we can just put it down and walk away. No more shame.

The enemy says “Shame on you”. The Holy Spirit says “Shame off you.” Just imagine the Holy Spirit telling the enemy to pour himself a tall glass of Hush Up!

We can’t pay for our sins. That was never our job. We can make amends as best as possible with those we’ve hurt. We can apologize and do better. We can live with more care and wisdom. We can walk in the Holy Spirit. But, we can’t pay for old sins.

Thank God we don’t have to!

Jesus paid and then God chose to forget our sins. As far as the east is from the west. He threw them in a pit so deep He can’t even see the bottom.

Our job is to remember that!

We’re the boss of our brains. (Mental illness is a different issue that requires extra support, but still, we have power over the gray matter!)

We get to say what stays in there. What we listen to. What we agree with. What we put into it.

When we start to spiral, we choose better. Daily. Moment by moment, we train our minds. And when a new temptation to spiral presents itself, we trust our training. Because only by trusting in God’s Word can we find this moment by moment victory. ~ Jennie

In Christ, we are new creations. You’re on the other side of the battle than you were before Jesus. Don’t forget that!

As believers in Jesus, we must remember to forget… Any ounce of condemnation or shame, blame, any names the enemy calls you, any old sins or old ways that the world wants you to wear like scarlet letter, any old garbage thrown back at you, anything that drags you down or makes you want to hide in shame… It’s void. Not valid. Defunct. It doesn’t belong to you anymore. So,

Forget it!
Leave it.
Drop it.
Walk away.
And breathe deep.

Prayer for the Week

Jesus, we love You. We love you. We love you. Thank You for wiping our sin away and making us completely clean in You. Thank You for taking away our shame and guilt. Help us, Jesus, to receive that clean slate and to walk in it. Free. Uncondemned. Unashamed. Unburdened. Full of joy and hope for the future. Help us to put the baggage down where it belongs and to walk free in You! We love You, Lord. Amen.
