Good Parenting and the Bible: Two Things That Are Always In Style

Recently my husband and I attended a seminar entitled “Parenting In The Digital Age”. The purpose of this seminar was to teach parents how to protect their children against the technological threats that assail families from inside and outside of the home.

As you might expect, we learned about the latest apps to monitor our children’s cell phone activities, the best software to protect our family’s computers, and the most popular social media hangouts our teenagers are on these days.

What surprised us most about this seminar, however, was the emphasis the speakers placed on parents becoming more aware of what is happening in their children’s lives.

Isn’t it funny that – at a high-tech safety seminar – the most important lesson we learned about protecting our families was this:

While the specific dangers our children face may change over time, good parenting skills do not.

This message resonated strongly with us because it’s a lesson the Bible teaches as well.

Proverbs 22:6 says it this way:

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Good Parenting Is Always In Style

The effects of good parenting are multi-generational. Children who are raised in strong families with parents who are actively involved in their children’s lives are likely to model this behavior in their own families as well.

My husband and I were blessed with parents who were actively involved in our lives, and who set an example we’ve tried to replicate in our own family. We were raised by parents who always knew where we were, who our friends were, and what activities we were involved in. Our parents monitored what we read and watched on television. Even when our parents worked outside of the home, they recognized that parenting was a full-time job and made provisions for our safety and supervision.

Our parents established firm and loving boundaries out of love – yet gave us the freedom to learn, grow, and make wise choices within the context of these boundaries. While we may have pushed those boundaries from time to time, as kids often do, deep down inside, we appreciated having their rules in our lives because we knew they were put in place for our protection.

The Bible Is Always In Fashion

Today, in a world where everything is in a state of flux, it’s important to provide our children with an unwavering source of security and stability in their lives.

Thankfully, as parents, we can give our children a rich spiritual heritage and a lifelong, ever-lasting gift that never changes and never goes out of style by teaching them the Word of God.

When our children are young, we begin their journey into God’s Word with picture books and Bible stories that their young minds can understand.

As our children reach their tween and teen years, it’s time to present them with their own age-appropriate, personal Bibles that will help them to:

  • Delve deeply into the Word of God
  • Help them grow in their relationship with and understanding of God
  • Teach them to apply biblical principles to the challenges they face in life

Two hot-off-the-presses Bibles that meet your tween and teen daughter’s needs in these areas are the:

What I love about both of these beautifully designed, hardcover Bibles is that they contain the full New International Version (NIV) text and they invite young girls to spend time with God, deepen their faith, and apply God’s Word to their lives!

The Faithgirlz Bible is written for tween girls, ages 9 through 12, and features a unique, sparkly magnetic enclosure that protects the Bible and invites daughters to take their Bibles wherever they go! Inside, they’ll find a variety of highly interactive in-text features including Bring It On Quizzes and Dream Girl Story-Telling Features that will bring the Bible to life – and show them just how relevant the Bible is in their lives!

The NIV Bible For Teen Girls is written for 13 to 18 year old girls and is designed to help daughters discover God’s will for their lives as they grow in faith, hope and love! This special Bible highlights key Bible verses and promises in pink and provides them with insights on key Bible characters and life! The full-length devotionals in this Bible are particularly relevant to the situations that teenage girls face.

As parents, we can’t always be with our children to help them through the challenges they face in life – but God can! When we give our children the gift of a Bible, we help them to build a strong spiritual foundation, and give them a gift that will last for life!

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. — Isaiah 40:8
