Help Everyone

Help Everyone

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

Jesus calls us all so clearly to love and help others. He doesn’t mince words or speak in riddles. He doesn’t suggest we only help people who agree with us or who look like us. He doesn’t let us off the hook because we already helped some other people some other time. He doesn’t give guidelines for determining which of the weak are more deserving than others. No, Jesus calls us to help everyone in need.

Is there a group that you feel resistant to help? People who you don’t think deserve your money or your time? We all have blind spots and stumbling blocks. But Jesus’ love for each and every one of us is bigger than our blind spots. Take some time to talk this over with God. Pray for His guidance and for Him to work in your heart to help you want to help all people in need.

The Two Greatest Commandments

God’s greatest commandments to us are to love Him and to love our neighbors as ourselves. It all boils down to living a life overflowing with love, to treating others with the same kindness and care that Jesus demonstrated for us. So how does something so simple become so complicated?

In truth, it’s still that simple. Our disagreements about politics, our rules about who can and can’t do what, and our insistence that some people must surely be better than others just don’t hold up when viewed through the lens of love.

Choose love today. Ask God to lend you His vision. As you interact with each person you meet, ask yourself how you can love them like Jesus. And then do it. You’ll find your heart warming toward even the most seemingly unlovable people when you do your best to see them through Jesus’ eyes.
