Helping Your Kids Love the Bible: Easy Tips and Awesome Verses

Want to ignite a love for the Bible in your kids?

It's a fantastic way to introduce them to Jesus' character, ministry, and His love so they can fall more in love with Him and walk with Him throughout their lives. The Bible also provides kids with a moral compass and spiritual foundation that'll guide them through life's twists and turns. It's packed with wisdom, stories, and teachings that inspire, comfort, and offer guidance.

By instilling a love for the Bible in your children, you're giving them a chance to develop a solid faith and a deep understanding of the mission of Jesus and His call on our lives. Let's dive into some practical tips and awesome Bible verses to make this journey fun and engaging.

I. Set the Cool Example

Kids are like little sponges, absorbing everything they see. Let your own passion for the Bible shine bright in your daily life. Make Bible reading a regular thing at home and let your kids see your reverence and excitement for the Word of God. Show them that the Bible isn't just another book but a source of wisdom, comfort, and joy.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.Proverbs 22:6 NIV

II. Make Reading the Bible User-Friendly

Make sure the Bible is easy-peasy for your kiddos to access. Keep age-appropriate Bibles within their reach and encourage them to explore the pages. Consider buying a children's Bible that presents stories and verses in a language and format that's engaging and understandable to them. Think: colorful illustrations and highlighted key passages to catch their attention. There are so many options to choose from! (See Resources below.)

III. Get Creative with Bible Reading Activities

Reading the Bible should be anything but boring! Make it an interactive and exciting experience. Cook up activities that bring those stories to life, like dramatic reenactments or arts and crafts projects tied to the Bible tales. Encourage your little ones to ask questions, discuss the stories, and share their insights. This fuels curiosity and builds a personal connection with the text.

IV. Introduce Age-Appropriate Devotions

As your kiddos grow, introduce them to devotional books or reading plans tailored to their age group. These handy resources offer short daily readings and reflections that help children develop a habit of spending time with God's Word. Encourage them to journal or doodle their thoughts as they ponder the readings, allowing them to express their understanding and emotions.

I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. — Psalm 119:11 NIV

V. Pray Together, Stay Together

Prayer is an important part of a child's spiritual growth. Teach your kids to pray and make it a regular part of your Bible reading routine. Encourage them to share their thoughts, concerns, and gratitude with God. This fosters a sense of connection and drives home the truth that the Bible is a living guide to a deep and fulfilling personal relationship with God.

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.Matthew 18:20 NIV

Teaching your kids to love the Bible is an amazing gift. Reading the Bible will have a profound impact on their lives.

Set an example for your children. Make the Bible accessible to them. Spice things up with interactive activities. Embrace devotions. Pray together. This will create an environment that nurtures their spiritual growth. Remember, it's not just about memorizing verses, but about fostering a genuine love for God's Word. So go ahead and embark on this exciting journey of faith with your little ones!
