Hey, friends! It’s week one! I love launching a new journey into the Word, don’t you?
If you’ve been a part of FaithGateway Online Bible Studies before, then we’ve already met and I’m so thankful to have you back with us!
In case you’re new to our community, I’m Laurie McClure, your OBS leader and the editor at FaithGateway. I’m a Jesus girl, a Bible lover, and a pastor’s kid, like Anne, and come from a long line of preachers and Bible nerds. My favorite thing in the world is Bible study, followed by the beach (or Bible study at the beach!) and I also love singing R&B, reading, watching movies and old TV shows, listening to podcasts, Sunday brunch with family, and exploring my new home state of North Carolina. Since we can’t meet in person on a weekly basis, consider yourself metaphorically invited into my home. I’m really into charcuterie lately, so if you were here at my place, I’d pile a cutting board high with all the good stuff and we’d get going!
Are you getting into the material yet?
This week Anne is teaching her Bible Study Workshop which I know you’ll really enjoy. We need to learn how to dig into Scripture, study it for ourselves, and not just be taught by someone else. Our relationship with God is ours and His Word is His gift to us! Through His living Word we learn more about Him and we hear Him speak directly to us. Let’s dive in!
Reading and dissecting John 14:15-20 causes me to long for the Holy Spirit more. Is that true for you, also? I’m in a season when the descriptors for Him are deeply meaningful to me. “Advocate”, “Counselor”, “the Spirit of truth”… the words alone heal my soul. That the Advocate lives within me is a powerful truth! That He is the Spirit of truth — not a truth as so many talk about nowadays but the absolute truth — is a relief to me. A physical relief!
The way we show Him our love is that we obey Him. Does that excite you, too? When we obey the Lord, He counts it as love!
What struck you most?
This week, I am praying over all of you and pray that you as you dive into the Scriptures you will invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you. I pray Ephesians 1:17-18 over each and every one of you and ask God to open your hearts to His Word as you get to know Him better from the Spirit’s revelation.
