You have a soul.
When we sat down with Pastor John Ortberg, author of Soul Keeping, we talked about our souls and that caring for them is the most important thing we can do!
John Ortberg is the senior pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. He shares with us lessons he learned from his mentor, Dallas Willard, about the importance of being aware of our neediness and bring it to the only place where we can be filled and refreshed — alone with God.
Just the sentence, ‘You have a soul,’ makes people get real quiet. Because we all have the sense that there is something that’s real deep about my life, but clatter and the busyness and the pressures of ordinary life, job, work, other people’s opinions–society is an absolute shipwreck that is destroying the spiritual life, well-being, health and knowledge of God in our day. My hope is that people with get the book [Soul Keeping] and not just read it, but come to understand that you have a soul. and that caring for your soul is the most important thing that you can do, because it will go on into eternity. And to learn how to care for your soul so that you have a vibrant, deep life with God out of which you can live with love, hope, peace, and joy to bless others — [this] is the reason why you’re on earth.”
