Little Sparks of Kindness

Editor’s Note: Following is an excerpt of God’s Little Angel: Shine Your Light Devotional by Sheila Walsh. Girls need to know that they can be bright, shining lights for God — and this devotional by Sheila Walsh will teach them to do so by thanking God, learning His Word, telling others about Him, and showing His love to everyone they meet. More than 50 devotions help girls see that God wants us to learn about Him and to put His Word in action. Memory verses, prayers, “Shine Your Light” activities that focus on serving God each day, and devotional thoughts explore how little girls can be more like Jesus. With lots of sparkles and even more great biblical applications and encouragement, the Shine Your Light Devotional is sure to be a favorite part of a little girl’s day.

Your mom is having a busy day. Dishes are piled in the sink, and loads of dirty clothes need to be washed. There’s cleaning to do and dinner to be made. Your mom didn’t get to any of it because she took you shopping and then to your dance lesson, and after that she treated you to ice cream.

What can you do to show her some kindness?

Kindness doesn’t have to be a big deal. You can shine your light with little sparks of kindness. Your mom would love it if you helped her by picking up your things without being asked. You could also play nicely with your little brother or sister while Mom does her work. If you think really hard, you can come up with loads of little ways to be kind.

The Bible says that kindness is one way to show God’s love. Jesus showed great kindness to people wherever He went. He was kind to people who didn’t like Him and even to those who didn’t thank Him for His kindness. And that’s how you should be.

Do kind little things for people straight from your heart — it makes God happy!

Dear God: Please open my eyes to see the little sparks of kindness all around me. Then show me how to be kind to others. Amen.

Sparkling Scripture

Be kind and loving to each other. — Ephesians 4:32

Search Light

Be on the lookout today for little sparks of kindness. When you see someone being kind, write it down. At the end of the day, count up all those little acts of kindness.

Shine Your Light

Little sparks of kindness are just that — little! Thinking of and praying for someone is kindness. So is saying thank you to someone who usually doesn’t get thanked, like a police officer, mail carrier, crossing guard, or teacher. Helping someone in any little way is kindness. So be kind. Let those little sparks shine.
