Editors Note: This is an excerpt from Being Still with God Every Day. In this 366-day devotional, each day features a scripture and a short, meaningful devotion to set minds and hearts on practical, godly living every day of the year.
“How Long?”
The Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?” – Numbers 14:11
“All I have needed His hand hath provided,” the hymnist wrote. Yet still we wonder… How in the world can we afford college?… Where will I find a job now that I’ve been laid off?… Will God really help me if I step out in faith?
How much evidence of God’s faithfulness will it take before we learn to trust Him? Refusing to believe God, even though He continues to provide for us, is an affront to our loving God.
It reflects an unbelief that hurts the heart of God. If you’re a parent, you undoubtedly understand that pain.
God’s provision—which is always enough and always on time—is one of His tangible ways of expressing His love for us, His children. Do you recognize the Father’s love in all He gives you? Or do you grumble and complain when what you have doesn’t satisfy you? Have you learned to expect God’s provision whenever you have need? Teach yourself to thankfully receive all that God gives you as evidence of His love and faithfulness, and then you’ll find it easier to trust Him next time.

Your Turn
As we prepare for Thankfulness Week and Thanksgiving Day, we want to acknowledge that sometimes thankfulness is an act of sheer determination in the face of worries, doubts, fear, and anxiety. It’s an act of faith in the goodness of God, trust in His awesome provision, and a choice to be in command of what we choose to focus on. So, before we begin a week of thanking God for His abundance, grace, and mercy in our lives, will you please join us at FaithGateway in actively setting aside the worries of the day and orienting our hearts toward thanksgiving and trust? Come join the conversation on our blog! We would love to hear from you! ~ Devotionals Daily
