You Are Never Alone Week 3 — God Is with You in the Storm

Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. — John 6:11

Count on Christ. He can help you do the impossible. Just offer Him what you have and watch Him work. ~ Max

Hey, friends! Welcome to week three of the You Are Never Alone OBS! This week we will learn about Jesus feeding an impossible crowd and coming to the disciples in the middle of a wicked and life-threatening storm.

Have you ever felt alone in a terrible storm? I think we all face it from time to time. Trouble after trouble. Exhaustion. Being overwrought emotionally. Too many ups followed by too many downs that rattle our teeth and jangle our nerves.

Jesus’ disciples faced those times just as we do. Our stories aren’t the same, but I bet over a pot of coffee we’d nod empathically to their experiences and wrap arms around them as they would with us. None of us believers are strangers to jagged losses, soaring highs, and desperate straits. We are all familiar with the having too little for what is needed, not knowing how we’ll get through, and feeling afraid in the darkest of circumstances.

Aren’t you glad Jesus was fully human? He gets us! He knows our pain, our fear, our desperation for raging troubles to end. He knows the grief of losing a loved one because he endured the brutal execution of his dear cousin and brother in ministry, John the Baptist. He knows the need for a place to rest, to let quiet do its work on the soul. He knows the craving for a warm meal and sweet companions. He knows distress, fatigue, and irritation.

But, aren’t you glad He was also fully God? I AM is enough for any situation. I AM shows up and saves. I AM uses what we have and makes a bounty of it. I AM surprises us with a breakthrough in ways we never could have anticipated. I AM doesn’t require us to have what it takes because He is the Provider, the Healer, the Hope, and the Friend. I AM is the fullest answer to our every need.

We can count on Christ. Full stop.

Let’s look for Jesus in the storm. Let’s expect the unexpected.

Because we are never alone.

Prayer for the Week

Jesus, we love You. Thank You, God, for never ever ever leaving us alone. We may feel alone, desperate, frightened, endangered, and ragged, but You are there! Help us to wait on You in faith; help us to hang on when we are at the end of our ropes. Come to us, Jesus, in the storm! We are expecting You. We love You. Amen.
