You’ll Get Through This — It’s Wrapup Week

Friends, this is it. We’re wrapping up this week Max’s phenomenal teaching from You’ll Get Through This, so get out your study guides and notes, fill in any blanks you missed, and re-watch the lesson videos. It’s been a hard week, hasn’t it? A hard year… I don’t know what the future holds for 2020, but I think this is a study that I could watch over and over. Annually. Because troubling times, struggle seasons… they are the rule rather than the exception, right?

If you’ve got a pulse, then you’ve got a few problems. It’s just part of life. We’re either coming out of a crisis, in the middle of a crisis, or headed toward a crisis. ~ Max

Family hurt is the toughest hurt there is. ~ Max

Life is hard and we need to be reminded when trouble comes whipping at us what Joseph’s life and God’s Word teaches us:

You’ll get through this.
It won’t be painless.
It won’t be quick.
But God will use your mess for good.
In the meantime, don’t be foolish or naive.
But don’t despair either.
With God’s help, you will get through this.

Are you still in thick brambles of something really hard? I am. Here’s what we must remember:

God uses tough times for His glory and our development. ~ Max

God and I are going to have a chat in Heaven about that. Because I agree with my bereaved friend in shouting “I don’t want any more character! I’m already kind, wise, and adorable!” Right?!

In the hardest of hard, what’s important is that we fling all of our hope on Jesus. Keep believing in what He has said.

[Jesus] weeps at the very sight of you. Not tears of shame but tears of joy. He calls for you. “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NLT). One foot of distance is too much. He wants us to come near. All of us… Come. Come. Come. ~ Max

Oh, how we wish He would just make the challenges disappear. How we wish He would obliterate the scandal and give us swift victory over the scoundrel. Just pick us up and out of the hard and the painful… But, while we are not, God is a big fan of through.

God gets us through stuff. Through the Red Sea onto dry ground (Exodus 14:22), through the wilderness (Deuteronomy 29:5), through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4), and through the deep sea (Psalm 77:19). ~ Max Lucado

Sometimes, it means He crosses a line in the sand with us. He takes it too far. Allows too much. Lops off what we though was permanently attached. In that time, we have to wrestle with our faith when we were so sure before and the chilling question arises about whether or not He’s good. That’s ok! Take that question to Him! He wants to hear your heart.

God not only wants your whole heart… He wants your heart whole. ~ Max

These present sufferings are in His capable hands.

Joseph understands that God is sovereign. God is overseeing both the seven good years and the seven tough years. ~ Max

God is good. He can’t be anything else.

During the through, don’t be foolish or naïve. For yourself, for all who love you, for your legacy… just don’t.

You don’t fix a struggling marriage with an affair. You don’t fix a drug problem with more drugs. You don’t fix financial insolvency with more debt. You don’t make matters better by doing something worse. You don’t fix stupid with stupid. ~ Max

Don’t make it worse. Don’t pass it along to future generations. In Christ, we can be better.

And, friends, let’s not dive into despair. It might be easier than normal during this season to crawl into your cave and cut the world off, but what good will that do. Take that hard past, that family pain, that scoundrel, that scandal, that suffering to Jesus. Let Him do what only He can do. Take your heart to King Jesus and to a few safe friends who will strengthen and salve what’s been battered and make you laugh in spite of yourself.

We’d be foolish to think that evil always wins the day. The Bible vibrates with the steady drumbeat of faith. ~ Max

This isn’t over. Not by a long shot. Give the Lord time to do something completely unimaginable.

What God did for Joseph He can do for you, too. Wait for it.
