SPANISH EDIITON: Healthy organizations require healthy, top-of-their-game leaders. In an increasingly complex and competitive global and tech-driven environment, leaders need every edge they can get.

Successful leaders understand the world of relationships. The “people factor” is critically important to their competence and focus. Two problems slow down the effectiveness of leaders:

1. Leaders are the “sourcer” of most of their relationships; that is, they lead, guide, direct, develop, mentor, coach and encourage those in their lives. While being the “sourcer” benefits others, leaders are unfortunately out of balance on being the “sourcee.” They have very few key relationships which benefit them, which support their growth and development, and in which they can be fully known and understood.

1. Leaders expend too much energy with the wrong people. By nature, leaders are problem-solvers and fixers, and they put time and attention into people who drain them. Every leader can identify with that one “project person” whom they have taken on to fix, mentor, help, rescue or repair, and they sometimes throw their energies down a hole for years, only to realize that it was not time well spent.

Leaders are upside down in their relationships, and this book will help them to go right side up by educating them about these seven types of people: Coaches, Comrades, Colleagues, Casuals, Care, Chronics, and Contaminants.

Leaders need perspective and tools to help them know how to spend their time wisely with the right people and to avoid the wrong ones. With understanding and skills, they will avoid many problems in work and in life, including lower brain functioning, energy loss, relationship conflicts, poor choices, concentration issues, health problems, and psychological struggles.
