Designed for the pastor and Bible student, Malachi: Audio Lectures, together with the accompanying text on Malachi from the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the Old Testament, brings to light the universal scope of God’s sovereignty and mercy. With careful analysis and interpretation of the Hebrew text, professor and scholar W. Dennis Tucker, Jr. traces the flow of argument in the book of Malachi, showing that how a biblical author says something is just as important as what they say.
The Persian Period proved particularly challenging to the small community living in Yehud. Expectations of a glorious restoration had waned as had their hope in the justice and faithfulness of God. The prophet Malachi speaks into such a moment, calling for a renewed sense of fidelity to their God, a fidelity grounded in right worship and exhibited through faithful living. In this audio study, each lecture offers the main idea of the passage, its literary context and Hebrew structure, an explanation of the text, and its practical significance for both the original audience and for us today.
