One of God’s names in Scripture is El Roi, which in Hebrew means “The God who sees me.”
How comforting to know that the Lord sees us.
He sees your every move; He sees where you have been; He knows the deep valleys you have walked through, the tears you’ve cried; and He knows the desires of your heart. Nothing can stop God’s sovereign hand from moving in your life today. It may sometimes seem that the enemy is winning the war, but I want to remind you of a God who reigns high above the heavens and the earth and sees you. The Bible tells us that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, will leave the ninety-nine other sheep for one that is lost. Out of a multitude of people, He sees you. When He hung on Calvary’s cross, He saw you.
One of the most powerful truths in life is this: knowing that Jesus would’ve gone to the cross even if you were the only person in the entire world who would ever choose Him. That’s how much He loves you. That’s how magnificent His love is for you. God doesn’t love us in a general sense; His love is intimately personal. He doesn’t see the crowds of people; He sees you. He made you in His image, and He loves you. You are a part of Him, and nothing can change that. The Lord extends His hand to you today and wants to reveal Himself in a way you’ve never seen before. He gives power to the weak, and He wants to fill you with His strength.
God also intervenes in our lives through His favor. God positioned a woman at the university where I worked to open a door for a job I didn’t qualify for. Deuteronomy 6:11 tells us,
The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. — NLT
God’s favor provides for us in such extraordinary ways that we can’t logically explain. But the eye of the Lord is on your life, and His favor has already gone before you.
- Even when you have no idea how things will work out, God does.
You will look back on your life and see the evidence of His goodness and favor even when you didn’t recognize it. Since giving my life to Jesus, it overwhelms me to remember how He provided for, protected, and favored me when I least deserved it. He opened doors for me, and I didn’t even acknowledge Him as God. How about you? Have you ever just sat back and reflected on your history with the Lord? Whether you’ve walked with Him for a day or for many decades, your history with Him extends further than you may realize.
Trust in God’s protection and favor as a spiritual well you can draw from during the tough times. Remind yourself that He has done it before, and He will do it again and again. When times are going well, remember how good He’s been to you. He “sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). His favor is like a shield around us in this life.
Call on the Lord today and ask Him to surround you with His mighty favor. Thank Him for every moment He has shown you His goodness. When we remember the goodness of God, gratitude unlocks joy in our lives.
