You know the ocean is my happy place. Maybe that’s true for you, too? Boat, kayak, stand up paddleboard, or just swimming in the big salty… all of it makes me hum with happiness. When I was little, though, I was very afraid of the big waves (We called them “Whompers”). The worst thing was facing a powerful whomper, duck diving under it and swimming for dear life, but getting sucked backwards into the wave and ending up going over the falls and into the “washing machine.” Ragdolling is not fun.
In the ocean and in life, we face wave after wave, sometimes whomper after whomper, right? Surges take us seemingly way off course. Disappointments, losses, bad choices, and changes reroute us, and maybe they sideswipe our hope, too. We can find ourselves looking back at what we had hoped and prayed for and feel like it’s gone for good. Like we’ve lost our way.

No matter what happens, Christ, our WayMaker, doesn’t get tossed about, gulping water. He doesn’t waver and He doesn’t sink. Knowing Him and staying anchored to Him leads us to the greatest joy and fulfillment of our hearts desires - more than we could ever dream.
