When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path… — Psalm 142:3
God pours into us in the still and silent places so He can pour us out in the world He loves. ~ Rebekah Lyons
Hey, friends, Are you ready for a fresh start in 2020? I have a love-hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions (and the guilt that often comes with unmet expectations), which is why I simply cannot.wait.another.minute to share that our next Online Bible Study is Rhythms of Renewal by Rebekah Lyons! Because this is not a New Year’s study about resolutions… it’s about finding renewal and healthier rhythms!
Ditch the resolutions… it’s time for better rhythms.
This one is for us.
The overwhelmed.
The plate spinners.
Those burning the candle wick at both ends.
Those of us who put ourselves last, and yet still struggle to put God first.
… And here’s what I know: it’s not God’s will for us to be running on empty. God loves us too much to leave us alone in stress, worry, and engulfed in chaos. He came to bring us life and life abundantly (John 10:10).
Rhythms of Renewal is a message of relief. And hope. And peace. This study is going to be a life-line for those of us who are out of balance, stressed, and over-scheduled, those of us who aren’t taking care of ourselves and our emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
Maybe you can relate? I always say every one of our OBS’s feels God-ordained just for me, and I need this study now more than ever. This season of life has been just too much and I feel frustrated and annoyed with myself. I’ve been struggling to hear the voice of the Lord, and eating right, sleeping normal hours, and exercising have gone out the window! Lately I look in the mirror and think, “Who is that? What happened to you? I mean, you look like me, although somewhat more bedraggled and haggard, but you’re somewhat of a stranger.”
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. — Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
Yes. I am. I am tired. I am overwhelmed. You, too?
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. — Isaiah 40:31
God, in His wisdom and love, gave us certain rhythms in Scripture that are the keys to renewal, and hope, and vitality. Rhythms that breathe into our spiritual walk, our pace, our choices, our bodies, our friendships, and our gifts that are meant to be shared with the world. It’s an ordering, a stride of life that is more peaceful, manageable, and nourishing to ourselves from the inside out.
In Rhythms of Renewal, Bible teacher and author Rebekah Lyons walks us through four essential rhythms that will change our lives: Rest, Restore, Connect, and Create. These are life-giving rhythms modeled by Jesus that will help us quiet our inner chaos and make room for a flourishing life.
Rhythm 1, Rest, has to do with our spiritual life because all life flows from the Father and we need Him first, like oxygen. As we learn about this rhythm, you’ll be challenged to take one small step to create more rest in your Rhythm 2, Restore, is about taking care of our bodies because we need to be strong and healthy to do this life well. Connect is our relationships, those friendships and ties where we step out of isolation and into a fuller place of growing and thriving. Where we smile and feel loved in community. Finally, Rhythm 4, Create, comes last because we need the first three in order to be an outpouring of the Holy Spirit with our gifts, our talents, our inspiration, and creativity that build and beautify His Kingdom.
Friends, if you’re like me and you’re just done with the overwhelm and the too-muchness, join us for Rhythms of Renewal. We don’t want to run at a break-neck pace. We can’t continue to live on fumes, coffee, and antacids. We need to slow down and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. At His pace. In His way.
It’s time for renewal. It’s time for hope and joy.
In this five-week study, we’re going to learn how to take practical steps to do life Scripturally. I hope you will join us for the Rhythms of Renewal OBS. You don’t want to miss this.
