You’re Invited to the When Strivings Cease Online Bible Study

Let 2022 be your year to find rest from striving!

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest. — Matthew 11:25-28

Hey, friends, I want to invite you to the When Strivings Cease Online Bible Study with Ruth Chou Simons starting January 17th. I don’t know how God does it, but He always brings the right study at just the right time!

This is the time for grace.

If there’s been a phrase for this year for me, it’s been “work harder”. Doesn’t it seem like the to-do list is just never-ending? The goal line is always moving and unreachable. The requirements are impossible.

It’s disheartening to feel like we’re never going to get there, always working towards something unattainable, and feeling overwhelmed, worn out, and tired. It’s like the success bar just gets higher and higher and I constantly feel like I’m not measuring up.

When does that end?

I love how Ruth challenges this “You are enough — just improve yourself” narrative that has “left so many women like you and me exhausted, worn out, and wondering why we can’t figure out how to be satisfied or how to stop striving so anxiously.” She writes in When Strivings Cease: “The ‘gospel’ of self-improvement isn’t good news at all; it’s a never-ending hamster wheel of anxious striving. Are you ready to get off the wheel?”

Yes, I am! ✋ The spinning wheel of striving is too much. We need more Jesus! We need grace.

Grace is more extravagant than we know. — Ruth Chou Simons

If you haven’t met Ruth yet (she’s a new author & Bible teacher to me!), you’re going to love her. Ruth is an artist. Check out her work on gracelaced.com. She’s a speaker, an entrepreneur, a wife to Troy and a mom of six boys. She’s passionate about grace, joy, and the Word of God.

I long for readers to stop asking the question, ‘Am I enough?’ and to find that God truly is. My prayer is that readers would see self-help (and the striving that results from it) for what it really is—a dead end street that won’t save or satisfy. ~ Ruth

For those of us who can’t even relate to the word “grace” right now, this is a special invitation to slow down and let Love in. Let the whispering voices that tell us we’re inadequate, insufficient, imperfect, and inept be silenced by the perfect and sufficiency of Jesus Christ, our Savior, who covers us and gives us rest for our souls.

We don’t have to perform on an endless loop. We don’t have to be anxious 24-7 about whether or not we live up to the hype and are doing everything we’re expected to be doing the way the world… God is already perfectly rejoicing in us (Zephaniah 3:17).

Let’s make this the year we cease striving together. Are you in?
